Beating MN, Feels So Good!

“An excellent team win and an excellent character win,” Head Coach Mike McCarthy said. “And it was definitely something that we needed.”

It almost looked like Brett Favre was going to do one of his old, final drive, late second game heroic comebacks again, like he had done so many times when he was with the Pack. His incredible desperation throw into the end zone for what looked like a TD to Percy Harvin with 48 seconds left in the game went under replay review. But it was overturned when a replay official determined the wide receiver came down with one foot out of bounds, wiping out the would be winning TD.

It was another very close game, but it finally gave the Packers, a win over their old quarterback for the first time. Favre threw three second-half interceptions, which helped the Packers hold on to beat the Vikings 28-24 on Sunday night. The Packers are now tied for first place in the division with a record of 4-3 and this was a key divisional win. Bears are also 4-3.

Favre said "It's devastating, I don't know how else to put it. I take a lot of pride and ownership in all phases of the game. You've got the ball in your hand, you hope to win those. You just feel like you let everybody down." The fans booed Favre hard this time around when he ran unto Lambeau Field.

"They our biggest rival and the close score, the way it ended, it was definitely a special night for us," Rodgers said. Aaron Rodgers was 21 of 34 for 295 yards and two touchdowns for Green Bay. He also threw a pair of costly first-half interceptions and both were in the Red Zone, which were both first's for his career. After getting sacked 14 times in two games against the Vikings last year, Rodgers was not sacked in 37 drop backs. (34 passes, three scrambles)

Challenged plays were really the difference in this game and they costed the Vikes some critical points. TE Shiancoe diving catch of Brett Favre’s pass in the end zone for a 17-yard TD was ruled incomplete in a review challenge because he did not have his hands underneath the ball, and he used the ground to make the catch (Vikings would of had a 21-14 lead). The other challenge was the Percy throw that was overturned because of his foot being out of bounds.

Another great play was the fake field goal attempt that did not work because of Quarless slipping and falling down, but I like the fact that we tried something different. And it could of worked and been a huge play, we need to keep practicing that one!

Hero's: Clay Matthews, without you, the team would be a shell of themselves. Clay you are a stud, being face masked, running down receivers without a helmet on, being blocked by three to four players at once, WOW....please stay healthy! Left tackle Chad Clifton and right tackle Bryan Bulaga who stopped Aaron from being sacked ONCE! Packers wide receiver James Jones was a playmaker for the game, as he caught four passes for 107 yards. Tight end Andrew Quarless 9-yard TD reception and linebacker Desmond Bishop 32-yard interception (his 1st career interception) return for a score were the first NFL touchdowns for both players. A.J. Hawk for playing solid and having a INT. Brandon Jackson 1-yard TD run, and for just running the ball well, in general. Greg Jennings for making those much needed first down grabs and his 14 yard TD. Jarius Wynn on his sack of Favre and breaking that streak of having no sacks on him last season.

Dull: Donald "Quickie" Driver streak of 133 consecutive games with at least one reception (139 including playoffs) came to an end. The last time Driver did not catch a pass in a regular-season game was on Dec. 30, 2001, ironically in a victory over Minnesota at Lambeau Field. The streak still stands as a franchise record. Another fun fact was with still 4:12 left in the third quarter, that was the last time any points were put on the board, there would be no more scoring for the rest of the third or fourth quarter. Safety Nick Collins said. “This team can battle through anything.” I hope so because we will need to be rocking on all cylinders when we take on the Jets next week. Until then I am going to relax this week and enjoy this much needed victory! GO! PACK GO! Vikes SUCK!
